HFG Trojans Maintain 100% Record As GAD Lose Theirs02-12-2011
It was a tense affair last night at the Finsbury Oval and Club Chairman Jason Sykes moved early to comment on the result stating, "World cricket has enough problems at the moment without speculation about this result. The ICC investigations will get to the source of the problem and until then I stand by my players 100%". The scene was set and as the atmosphere grew the police were called to clear the outfield before a ball had been bowled. Would the combination of new blood and a change in management tip the balance in favour of HFG? GAD chose to bat given HFG debutant "Jacko" chance to pin them to the crease. The early overs were excellent, very few runs conceded and then the breakthrough came with Rogers Senior claiming the first wicket. The bowling was tidy and "Mad Max" showed the selectors were right with the old adage "if you good enough, you're old enough". At this point another classic phrase nearly came true "Catches win matches" when "Gluehands Rogers Senior" took a catch that any England international would be proud of diving forward to pluck the ball out the air nigh two inches from the ground. Impressive overs from the "Kittipult", "Rogers Junior", "Velocity Vidal" and a devastating final over from "Bail Shaver Dainty" led to GAD posting a meagre 88 runs. Would the dropped catches prove to be costly though? Asinugo, Bernard and O'Dwyer left the field with much to prove. HFG Trojans were confident as they left the field but quickly became aware that the night wasn't to be theirs. As the light rapidly faded the collapse began at the very first ball with Dainty learning that a Ruby Duck is not a type of curry. Wickets fell, as did the tears, Braidwood bravely took one in the face before quickly returning the clubhouse and at this point HFG turned to their international contingent. Nigeria, France and Ireland aren't known for producing cricketers but in Asinugo, Bernard and O'Dwyer their respective nations took pride last night. They blocked, swatted and ran their hearts out with the final wicket falling just short of the total and with only 14 balls remaining. The team grouped together in the Worlds End and will take the lessons from last night into the final game of the season next week. |
