High Finance Group Trojans succumb to the might of the Towers Watson Warriors02-12-2011
The High Finance Group Trojans took on the Towers Watson Warriors in an end of season clash last night at the Finsbury Oval. With the Trojans handing out a few debuts to some of their up and coming talented youth team members this promised to be an enthralling battle. After winning the toss on what looked like a flat wicket HFG chose to bat, and Dainty and Moseley strode confidently out to bat. The Warriors opening bowling marked out his run up which was close to the boundary rope and charged in to bowl. The first ball leapt of a good length and Dainty did well to fend it off his fingers over the waiting slip cordon. The good fortune was not to last and the very next ball his middle stump went cart wheeling backwards. This set off a mini collapse and with some good line and length bowling the HFG Trojans were suddenly in big trouble went Kaplan departed having failed to trouble the scorers. Some excellent bowling and fielding entailed and the Trojans continued to lose wickets at a rate of knots. An amazing act in the spirit cricket was shown by Baz Sanchez, the Trojans captain when he reprieved O'Dywer who seemed to hit his own stumps. With some pinch hitting to finish off the innings from Brown who finished with 41 not out and a six out of the ground from Dainty, the HFG Trojans ended on 104. With the light fading fast The Towers Watson Warriors knew that they needed to get a move on. James "the Kittapult" Kitt charged in to open the bowling and with Pitchford at the nursery end keeping things tight HFG were well and truly in the game. Unfortunately some power hitting and poor fielding meant that Towers Watson were soon firing on all cylinders. The bowlers were rotated and some tight bowling lead to a break through from Dainty and Mosey grabbed two more wickets. Damien "the rules" Bernard almost pulled off one of the best catches ever seen at the Finchley Oval but it was not to be and with Towers Watson nearing the target some huge hitting saw them past the post in the penultimate over. This sparked huge celebrations from Towers Watson, who have now gone three years unbeaten! It was a tightly fought contest and very enjoyable for all involved. The players and umpires retired to the Worlds End bar where champagne was opened for the Towers Watson team to celebrate their winning run. Unfortunately for the HFG Trojans it was another disappointing loss and it looks increasingly likely that they will be relegated from the top division, with only a victory against G.A.D in two weeks time giving them any chance of staying up. Thanks to all involved and well done to those winning their first caps. |
