Nine man Trojans scuppered by full strength Towers Watson

02-12-2011

The High Finance Group Trojans kicked off the outdoor season with a thrashing from Towers Watson in Golders Green on Wednesday 9th June.

The side was much weakened following the loss of Blaize, Vidal and Dainty due to prior engagements, leaving only four regular 1st team players available. Luckily, strong support reared its head in the form of international legends Troy Edhouse and Alvin Kallachurann.

The Trojans lost the toss and were put in to bat against some aggressive opening bowling. Despite an early tumble of wickets as a snorter ripped through O'Hanlons gate, Edhouse and Kallachurran kicked into gear and put willow to leather for a string of boundaries. With Edhouse retiring after a memorable 30, Gallimore followed up with a couple of long 6's that nearly ended the game due to lost balls.

Like the England games of the early noughties the inevitable collapse then ensued with Kallachurann, Caplan & Asinugo's wickets falling too easily. Brown then stepped into the crease and after a mighty pull for six lost the strike to a flailing Attwood who was swinging like a rusty gate. Just 10 runs from the last three overs left the Trojans on a respectable 101 off fifteen overs.

Knowing that the fielding had to be at its best the Trojans strode into the field with Rogers and Edhouse opening the bowling. Following some tight bowling Rogers got the breakthrough and sen t their opener packing. Kallachan bowled a tidy three overs and restricted the scoring with two wickets and Brown kept it tight at the other end. Unfortunately Towers Watson kept finding the boundary and the Trojans were always struggling with 9 men. Asinugo kept them in the game with some superb fielding and cart wheeling in the deep but in the end Towers Watson romped home with an over to spare. A great evening had by all and many thanks to those who made it, a special thanks must go to Alvin Kallacharan (West Indies 1972-1981).
